Meet Glory Utuk, a native of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. She holds a degree in Biochemistry from Tansian University where she graduated in 2014. After completing her NYSC in 2016, she spent five years looking for a job without success. Eventually, she grew tired of job hunting and in 2022 decided to start her own bedding business.

The bedding industry is profitable as individuals regularly require new sheets. Blessing acknowledges this fact and considers it a worthwhile business venture. Despite starting her business with only 15,000 Naira, her enterprise has grown to the point where she now supplies retailers in bulk. The high point recorded in the business was when she was awarded a contract to supply five complete sets of plain bedsheets, and the low point of the business is when she stays for a month without any sale.

In business, obstacles are inevitable. Despite facing financial difficulties and having bills to pay, Glory acknowledges that she has contemplated giving up. However, quitting is not an option for her. Her unwavering passion for the business propels her forward.

Glory doesn’t have her own shop for her business and instead shares her mother’s shop. Additionally, her business has not been registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission yet.

If Policy Makers and Investors are looking to provide financial assistance to Glory in expanding her business, they could consider stocking duvets as there is a high demand for the items among her customers. The bedding business is highly lucrative and does not require a significant amount of capital to start, making it a viable option for those who are currently unemployed.
