blessing frank

My name is Blessing Nsikak Frank. I am the CEO of De Marvellous Place; a business venture coined out to be unique in its product, to serve the necessities of humanity, started on a humble platform and going global with no distant time.

The reason I ventured into this business line was to be self-reliant, assist my family and contribute to manpower development that will at the same contribute to the economic development of Nigeria in particular and the world at large through bag-making. Until recently, it was very rare to see anyone making bags as an individual entrepreneur.  It was normal for people to buy readymade bags produced in factories and by big companies. Even now, some people are still surprised to see individual entrepreneurs producing different kinds of good, sturdy and highly marketable bags!

I entered into this business line on the 1st of July, 2023 after my training/apprenticeship at Chi-Faith Collections. It is barely a month plus, and plans are underway for its incorporation to make it legal.

De Marvellous Place produces a beautiful range of handcrafted products – bespoke, leather travelling/handbags, lunch boxes, mother care, Party Favours and accessories in line with Ankara products ranging from conference bags and folders to laptop bags, promotional/corporate gifts that are tailored to specific client needs. It is a viable business venture which promises to generate much income from its proceeds.

My starting capital was a rented container costing N120,000, a second-hand Butterfly sewing machine for N65,000, and some fabrics and other sewing materials costing N100,000. The total cost was N285,000.

My high point of the business is the location…close to the University of Uyo Permanent Site campus. It is a nice location as university students and other school children, men and ladies are not let out as part of fashion. With these, I’ll make a lot of sales.

I am afraid of credit buyers or promissory payments, again, I will do everything to make deliveries promptly.

I have never thought of giving up in the face of challenges because as an entrepreneur, I understand that it is having the flexibility and the freedom to experiment, take risks, change my mind, design, develop new products and excitedly participate in the process of transforming an idea on paper…a concept in my head to a beautifully finished product that matters. I am ready to take calculated risks as an entrepreneur, knowing it will yield interest.

As a starter, I am doing the business alone for now, hoping to engage trainees and other workers, especially when I have a contract to supply souvenir bags or other gift items. At the same time, plans are underway to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a legal concern venture.

My business mentor is my husband, who inspired me to this line of business. He introduced me to Chi-Faith Collections located at No.20 Nkemba Street, off Abak Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State where I underwent my training and apprenticeship for one year.

Policymakers and investors can assist me in getting a bag sewing machine (Manual and Electric) and getting an expanded space to accommodate the intended craftsmen who would be interested in learning the skills with me.
