Juliet arah

My name is Juliet Kehinde Arah, I grew up in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. I ventured into business early in life because I wanted to be an asset to my society and not a liability.

My business name is Gyckidsandbrides, here we cater to the fashion needs of children and brides-to-be. I have trained more than 5 young girls in my line of business.

I ventured into Gyckidsandbrides because I observed that it was quite challenging for intending brides to get the accessories they wanted from a particular stall, and so I decided to sell most things that brides need to make their planning less stressful, I love taking care of children and making them look beautiful, I know it’s challenging to have your girl child keep calm while braiding her hair since I had my way around it, I decided to pitch my tent there.

I started off as a hairstylist when I was 8 years old, but I ventured into the business properly when I was 17 years. I proceeded to learn how to sew and make wedding dresses, so Gyckidsandbrides was birthed in 2021.

My business is very lucrative, People get married almost every Saturday and they need to purchase a lot of items to decorate their big day and a lot of parents want their girl child to look very pretty and are willing to spend on them.

My business is capable of reducing the rate of unemployment in my area as it can employ at least 3-5 persons. It’s also very impactful as it encourages young people to learn the skill of sewing and create jobs for themselves.

My starting capital was one million Naira. The high points recorded in my business so far are the ability to train 5 young girls in the business, conveniently pay my workers, expand my shop, etc. The low point of the business is low sales sometimes and losing money due to logistics challenges.

I admit that I have thought about giving up in the face of challenges, but I keep encouraging myself because I have come a long way to give up.

My business is not yet registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission at the moment. I do not do all the work myself, I have employees and apprentices whom I supervise to help carry out the task except in a few cases when I need to step in.

I would appreciate it if policymakers and investors assist me with funds to purchase sophisticated machinery to help the efficacy of our job.
