Abasiama Gideon Okoro is a first-year medical student at the University of Uyo. Hailing from Ukanafun Local Government in Akwa Ibom State, Abasiama’s vision extends beyond the world of medicine. He’s not just a student; he’s a dedicated launderer and cleaner who’s paving his path as an entrepreneur.

The spark of his entrepreneurial journey ignited in 2020 during the lockdown. Faced with frustration and the desire for financial independence, he saw an opportunity to turn his skills into income. Previous jobs offered him meager salaries, and he craved a venture where his skills could flourish, leading him to embrace the world of laundry and cleaning.

The economic potential of Abasiama’s business is vast. In the realm of utility services, offering quality and timely services holds immense promise.

Abasiama’s entrepreneurial story began with almost nothing. Armed with determination and an iron, he started offering services that gradually earned him enough to upgrade and expand. He’s successfully mentored over ten individuals in his field, guiding them through online classes and helping them find their footing.

Every journey has its challenges, and Abasiama’s is no exception. Limited machinery sometimes compels him to resort to manual work, which can be tiring and lead to delays. There was a point where a misstep tarnished his reputation, but he rebounded with resilience.

His business, a blend of laundry and cleaning, is managed predominantly by him. As a startup, Abasiama wears many hats, occasionally seeking casual help for time-sensitive projects. While he dreams of registering with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), he’s already registered his venture with SMEDAN. Abasiama’s mentor, his boss, has been a guiding light in his journey.

He envisions a future where policy makers and investors can play a role in his growth by providing better equipment and expanding his reach by providing a new shop.

To aspiring entrepreneurs, Abasiama emphasizes consistency, focus, and resilience. His line of work demands dedication and entails risk, but the rewards are worth it.
